Maureen T. Coghlan

Maureen serves as Co-Chair of Archer’s New Jersey Local Counsel Practice. An experienced trial lawyer and strategic litigator, Maureen places the highest priority on providing exceptional client service with the highest ethical standards. Over the years, she has represented clients in a wide range of complex civil litigation disputes and multi-state class action matters in cases involving environmental law, condemnation and eminent domain, securities, patents, data breaches, mass torts, compliance investigations, and contract disputes, among others. Clients look to Maureen for her indispensable experience, familiarity, and ability to assist at every level of litigation, as well as before federal and state administrative agencies, and in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

Within Maureen’s diverse practice, she is known as a seasoned federal litigation defense attorney. She understands the Local Rules and is familiar with the procedures specific to federal judges throughout the District of New Jersey’s three vicinages. Her goal is to comprehensively and effectively protect her clients’ interests, and she relies on her extensive experience in the federal court system to do so. She draws on her experience, as well as her deep substantive and technical knowledge to efficiently pursue success in litigation involving significant financial stakes or complex federal law issues. She brings a high level of civil litigation experience to representing business clients and out-of-state lawyers in the District of New Jersey.

Maureen’s background in complex civil litigation includes helping clients manage cost-effective, multi-party discovery, complete investigations, retain expert witnesses, and handle all aspects of motion practice and trial. She develops litigation approaches designed to achieve clients’ business needs and objectives while minimizing risk, and implements them with attention to detail, efficiency, and dedication.

Prior to joining Archer, Maureen served as a law clerk to the Honorable Renée Marie Bumb, United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey, who now serves as Chief District Judge, and the Honorable George L. Seltzer, Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division (Ret.).
